Williams bests Hamilton in OT

In a rare nonconference game involving 2 NESCAC teams, Williams came from behind to defeat Hamilton in OT, 4-3, on a George Hunkele goal 56 seconds into OT in the consolation game of Plattsburgh’s holiday tournament. To gain the opportunity for an OT win and a third-place finish in the tournament, Williams scored the tying goal with a mere 13 seconds to go in regulation as Zander Masucci put home an extra attacker goal. Sean Dougherty, Williams’ work horse goalie, was given the afternoon off and back-up Noah Klag given a rare start. Similarly, Hamilton’s regular goalie, Joe Quattrocchi, gave way to frosh Charlie Fennell for Hamilton, who took the loss while facing 28 SOGs. Hamilton handicapped itself with a chippy performance that resulted in 33 PIMs and 10 PP opportunities for Williams. The Continentals compensated with excellent penalty killing, killing off 9 of 10 PP opportunities, including a 5-minute major in the 2nd period, and even managed to score a shorthanded goal. Missing from the Hamilton line-up were star d-man Marko Brelih (out with an injury) and big, veteran d-man Bennett Schneider (he graduated early and decamped to the SPHL where he now plays professional hockey for the Pensacola Ice Flyers).
