Bowdoin-Trinity game’s impact on the NESCAC play-offs

As most NESCAC fans know, Bowdoin and Trinity will meet at a neutral site (the Brooks School in North Andover, MA) on Monday (Feb 18) at 7:00 PM to make up a Nemo-postponed game and to complete the NESCAC regular season. For Bowdoin, the game is about momentum going into the NESCAC play-offs and NCAA seeding (and home game possibilities) if it were to make the NCAAs as either an AQ or a Pool C pick. For Trinity, the game is about 3rd versus 5th place in the NESCAC regular season and a home game versus a road game in the first round of the NESCAC play-offs. Obviously, there is a lot at stake for both teams. The only top-six team unaffected by this game will be Williams.

In terms of seeding for the play-offs, the outcome is the same whether Trinity wins or the game ends in a tie (Trinity ends up in third place and hosts Wesleyan in the first round and Middlebury ends up in fifth place and hits the road to play Amherst). If Bowdoin wins the game, Middlebury ends up in fourth place and hosts Trinity while Amherst ends up in third place and hosts Wesleyan. There should be lots of Bowdoin fans in Middlebury on Monday and maybe even a few in Amherst, who think that defeating Middlebury a third time in one season may be pushing the limits of their luck.

Here is the detail that explains what will happen to the NESCAC standings and play-offs under various outcomes  of the Bowdoin-Trinity game.
