D3 President’s Council nixes D1-D3 combined final 4

In a move that is good for the NESCAC, the D3 President’s Council rejected the proposal to combine the D3 final four with the D1 final four in a trial basis in 2014. This proposal had many flaws, including that it would prolong the D3 hockey season by several weeks and likely cause serious concerns for NESCAC decision-makers as to whether they should continue to sanction NESCAC participation in the NCAA’s championship play-offs.

Also of note is that the NCAA is scheduled to take up a proposal to delay the start of the D3 competition until November 1. If this proposal is adopted, it would brings the schedules followed by the rest of D3 much closer to the NESCAC’s schedule, which allows for competition to begin in about mid-November (Nov. 16 this year)
