Nov 26, 2011, schedule and results

Busy OCC and tournament schedule for Saturday involving all NESCAC teams except for Williams:

Trinity 4 Assumption 1 (at Wesleyan) it’s a Menard afternoon as Chris gets 2 goals in the 2nd period and twin Jeff assists on both; Ben Coulthard gets the start in net and makes 24 shots as Trinity dominates territorially, outshooting Assumption by 45-25)

Bowdoin 5 Salve Regina 2 (at Colby for first day of the Bowdoin/Colby Tournament) (Tim McGarry scores 2 goals wheil Jordan Lalor and Ryan Collier each have 2 assists; Richard Nerland gets the start in net and makes 16 saves; recap from the Bowdoin website here)

Amherst 5 Salem State 1 (at Hyannis, MA; Cape Cod Tournament) (Amherst dominates in a very physical game (each team is whistled for 15 penalties and 46 PIMs, with many of the penalties of the “hitting after the whistle” variety and the 2nd period full of penalties); the Jeffs jump out to a quick 3-1 lead early in the 1st; Andrew Kurlanski gets 2 goals, including the game winner, while Eddie Effinger and Jamie Hawkrigg both have 2-assist nights; Jonathan La Rose gets the start in net; Amherst will play Hobart for the tournament championship tomorrow)

Morrisville 4 Tufts 2 (Rutland Invitational) (Kyle Gallegos makes this penalty-filled game interesting with 2 3rd period goals, including an extra attacker goal at the 19:12 mark of the 3rd period, after the Jumbos fall behind by a score of 3-0 in the 2nd period; Scott Barchard goes the distance for Tufts in net, saving 22 of 25 SOGs (Morrisville’s 4th goal is an empty netter; his in-conference stats  much better than his overall numbers)

Middlebury 0 Plattsburgh 0 (OT) (in an oddity, there is no shoot-out to break the tie and decide 3rd place in the Primelink; the game goes in the books as a tie; Nick BonDurant gets his first start of the year in net for the Panthers and is spectacular; Middlebury outshoots Plattsburgh by 26-19; in a rare feat, Plattsburgh goes 125 minutes in the Primelink without scoring a goal; good write up of the game in the Plattsburgh newspaper, with quotes from both coaches)

UMass Dartmouth 6 Conn College 4 (2 goals for Keith Veronesi as the Camels fall to UMass-Dartmouth, despite dominating the game (SOGs were 40-20))

Wesleyan 4 Wentworth 1 (Glenn Stowell gets his second starting assignment in goal in a row and does very well, saving 40 of the 41 SOG that he faces; Nik Tasiopolous gets 2 goals as the Cardinals score all of their 4 goals in the 2nd period)

USA Under-18 5 v Colby 4 (at Colby for the first day of the Bowdoin/Colby Tournament) (USA Under-18 jumps out to a 3-goal lead in the 1st period and holds it through the 2nd period; Colby makes it interesting in the 3rd period, drawing to within 1 goal before the halfway point of the period but cannot find the equalizer; Chris Buonomo scores 2 goals and frosh Ray Zeek has a 2-pont night (1-1-2); Matt Delaney is in net for the Mules again – it looks as though he will be the # 1 netminder for the Mules this year; SOGs are 29-19 in favor of Team USA-18)

Hamilton 5 Brockport 5 (OT)  (at Skidmore; Skidmore Invitational) (Hamilton advances to the finals of the Skidmore Invitational via a shoot-out; the other finalist will be Skidmore, which vanquished Nichols by a score of 8-2; Mike DiMare as a 3-point night (2-1-3) while Anthony Scarpino scores 2 goals; Hamilton takes a 1-goal lead at the 18-minute mark of the 3rd on goal by Scarpino only to surrender the tying goal 50 seconds later on an extra attacker, short-handed goal; Cam Gibbar gets his start of the year in net, saving 26 of the 31 SOGs that he faces; play is even as the SOGs are 33-31 in favor of Hamilton)
