NCAA play-offs

Bowdoin to host Neumann on Wednesday in a first-round play-off game. The winner gets to travel to Oswego on Saturday for the quarterfinals. Here’s the link to the complete bracket.

No other NESCAC team was issued an invitation. In fact, the ECAC East’s Castleton State did not get invited despite its 22-4-1 record. Castleton actually tore through the NESCAC (except for Bowdoin and Colby) but is apparently being faulted for not scheduling a tougher OOC schedule. The Spartans lost out to Wisconsin-Superior (and its 16-12-1 record) for the last Pool C slot (Neumann and Oswego got the two other Pool C slots; Oswego needed the Pool C slot because it was bounced out of the SUNYAC play-offs by Fredonia in the semi-finals and did not qualify for the AQ). Curry College (the ECAC Northeast champion) will be playing Norwich (the ECAC East champion) in another play-in game on Wednesday and that’s it in terms of New England representation in the 11-team field. In theory, Bowdoin could meet Curry or Norwich in the finals in Minnesota as they are at opposite ends of the brackets.
